Join us for this site-specific dance installation.

Thursday, June 20, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm | Main Gallery

As we changeover our galleries between exhibitions, we are sometimes left with empty space as we prepare for new, incoming artworks. To bring the space to life between exhibitions, we have partnered with dancers Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon to present a unique, one-of-a-kind dance performance.

Centered around the duet dance making practice of Griggs and Yon, Interstitial falls in the margins between categories, genre, and discipline in performance and occurs in spaces in between other programming. The experience is unique for the audience as they get to see a space in a state that is not normally shown to the public. Each edition of Interstitial is made specifically for each space reconciling the reverberations of what had just been there with the anticipations of what is to come.

This is a free performance with a cash bar, donations to the dancers are welcome.

About the Dancers

Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon create original dances that are deadpan slapstick, understated melodrama, autobiographical science fiction, cubist vaudeville, asymmetrically consonant explorations of magic and virtuosity in everyday movement. They met at the Bessie Schönberg Artist Residency at The Yard in 2002 and have been working together ever since. They were participants in the dance communities of New York City, Minneapolis, and Iowa City, before moving to Winston-Salem. Chris and Taryn's choreographies have been commissioned and presented across the US, Canada, Ireland, and France. Their current project is Interstitial: A site-specific dance during the changeover between art exhibits.
