Chris Yon and Taryn Griggs create original dance works and offer classes for adult dancers of all levels. During this evening dance class for adults, Chris and Taryn will lead an exploration of Somatic and Improvisational Practices. This class will feature existing choreography, and together with participants, Chris and Taryn will create site-specific responses to SECCA's unique environment.
Cost: $10 at the door.
About the Dancers
Together, Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon create original dance works that are deadpan slapstick, understated melodrama, autobiographical science fiction, cubist vaudeville, asymmetrically consonant explorations of magic and virtuosity in everyday movement. They met at the Bessie Schönberg Artist Residency at The Yard in 2002 and have been working together ever since. They were participants in the dance communities of New York City, Minneapolis, and Iowa City, before moving to Winston-Salem. They are currently working on a series of performances at SECCA inhabiting the galleries in between exhibitions. Chris and Taryn's choreographies have been presented across the US, Canada, Ireland, and France.
