Join us for this one-of-a-kind dance installation.
Saturday, January 25, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm | Main Gallery
We are excited to announce that we are partnering again with dancers Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon to present another unique, one-of-a-kindInterstitialdance performance on Saturday, January 25 at 3:00 pm in SECCA's Main Gallery. This event is free and open to the public although donations to the dancers are welcome.
This Interstitial dance performance will be performed by Griggs and Yon along with three other dancers. A string quartet comprised of young international music scholars from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts will play for one section of the performance. Another section will be augmented by a projected environment by an experimental animator.
Centered around the duet dance practice of Griggs and Yon, Interstitial falls in the margins between categories, genre, and discipline in performance and occurs in spaces in between other programming. The experience is unique for the audience as they get to see a space in a state that is not normally shown to the public. Each edition ofInterstitialis made specifically for each space, reconciling the reverberations of what had just been there with the anticipations of what is to come.
This is a free performance with a cash bar, donations to the dancers are welcome.

About the Dancers
Taryn Griggs and Chris Yon create original dances that are deadpan slapstick, understated melodrama, autobiographical science fiction, cubist vaudeville, asymmetrically consonant explorations of magic and virtuosity in everyday movement. They met at the Bessie Schönberg Artist Residency at The Yard in 2002 and have been working together ever since. They were participants in the dance communities of New York City, Minneapolis, and Iowa City, before moving to Winston-Salem. Chris and Taryn's choreographies have been commissioned and presented across the US, Canada, Ireland, and France. Their current project is Interstitial: A site-specific dance during the changeover between art exhibits.
