On view July 18, 2019 to January 5, 2020

From furniture-based sculpture to sculptures that function as furniture, Furnished presents more than 50 works by 15 contemporary artists from North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The diverse works in this juried exhibition explore themes of design, immersive environments, creative reuse, materiality and playfulness, and the relationships between form and function.

Several of the artists featured in Furnished will be at the opening to discuss their work. The opening reception is free and open to the public and will include a cash bar (no bar charge for SECCA Members).

The Artists featured in Furnished were selected by Wendy Earle (Curator of Contemporary Art, SECCA) and three guest jurors: Dr. Sarah Anne Carter (Curator and Director of Research, Chipstone Foundation), Dr. Rosa Otera (Associate Professor of Design, Chair of the Department of Art, Art History and Design, Salem College), and Richard Prisco (Professor of Industrial Design, Appalachian State University).

Free and open to the public.
