SECCA is proud to premier The Parting, a short film about a Mexican immigrant struggling to provide for his son in an increasingly difficult America.
Filmed and produced entirely in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the film was helmed by a local crew of award-winning UNC School of the Arts, School of FIlmmaking graduates and features a local cast of non-professional Latino actors, most of whom have never acted before.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers and the actors. Director Alex Moratto will lead an open discussion on a difficult and important question: what does it mean to be a Latino immigrant living in America today?
Drawing from references in the film as well as personal stories, reflections, and insights, the discussion aims to be a respectful and constructive event, engaging for all who want to learn more about Latino immigration and the changing face of our country. This film is being presented in conjunction with SECCA’s exhibition Margarita Cabrera: The Space in Between.
