ETAERNUS VITA (eternal life) is a visually compelling contemporary dance work that investigates the human desire for self-awareness, technology’s impact on this process and the concept of an artificial continuation of life. The performance creates an immersive environment and features live musical compositions as well multi-media and sculptural elements. ETAERNUS VITA incorporates movement capture technology, worn by dancers, that determines the creation of several key audio-visual components.

Irish born artist Katie Holten is developing a site-specific installation for SECCA’s upcoming paperless exhibition. Holten creates works that contribute to an awareness of place and environment while reflecting the vulnerabilities implicit in everyday life. Holten will be in Winston-Salem conducting research for her installation. Join the artist as she discusses her artistic process as an investigation of the relationship between humankind and the natural world.

Film @ SECCA: The Parting

SECCA is proud to premiere The Parting, a short film about a Mexican immigrant struggling to provide for his son in an increasingly difficult America. Filmed and produced entirely in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the film was helmed by a local crew of award-winning UNC School of the Arts School of FIlmmaking graduates and features a local cast of non-professional Latino actors.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers and the actors. Director Alex Moratto will lead an open discussion on a difficult and important question: What does it mean to be a Latino immigrant living in America today?
Perform @ SECCA: Paper Lantern Theater Company

Enjoy a showcase of live theatrical scenes inspired by the Lilly McElroy exhibition at SECCA. This showcase is the culmination of a seven-week acting course led by the Paper Lantern Theater Company, during which participants learned and developed acting techniques through an exploration of the themes found in McElroy’s projects.
