Across North Carolina designers, artists, producers and manufacturers are collaborating to form new and innovative micro-industries. These exciting ventures employ sustainable cultivation and manufacturing practices, collaborative approaches to design and production and are facilitating the development of new economies. Consisting of emerging leaders in this field, panelists include Libby O’Bryan, Out of Fashion artist and collaborative partner in Sew Co; Bethanne Knudson, Design and Production Manager at The Oriole Mill; Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko, Founders/Designers at Raleigh Denim; Stephen Fraser, Spoonflower co-founder; and Eric Henry, President of TS Design and partner in Cotton of the Carolinas (and the Dirt to Shirt project).

The panel will be followed by an exclusive performance entitled slipped slip.  Artist/dressmaker R. Brooke Priddy, Composer Kimathi Moore, and Dancer/Choreographer Janice Lancaster Larsen collaborate in the cross-disciplinary dance performance slipped slip, which takes an artwork from the galleries to its natural end on the grounds of SECCA. As a work on display in the SECCA exhibition Out of Fashion, Priddy’s sculptural, clay-treated dress ADSR (Attack Decay Sustain Release) has slowly broken down as pulsing speakers played low bass rumbles inside. On the afternoon of Saturday, March 10, Ms. Lancaster Larsen will don the actual garment and usher its poetic return to the earth through movement, dance, and live audio composed on site by Kimathi Moore.  Viewing begins @ 3:30pm; Performance begins @ 4:00pm.
