The evening will close with a live jazz concert, further illuminating the profound connections between the mind and creative spirit. The event is free and open to the public.

Roger Beaty is the Dr. Frances Keesler Graham Early Career Professor and Director of the Cognitive Neuroscience of Creativity Lab at The Pennsylvania State University. His lab studies the psychology and neuroscience of creativity using a combination of psychometric, computational, and brain imaging methods. He is an Associate Editor for Creativity Research Journal, and he serves on the Executive Committee of the Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity.

Brevan Hampden was born instantly a member of a high-level musical family; his father Ivan, toured with Luther Vandross, Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Roberta Flack, Grady Tate, and Ashford & Simpson, and his mother Brenda, performed on Broadway, with Dizzy Gillespie, Angie Bofill, Marian Anderson, and Jazzmobile. Brevan has performed with Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo, Ani DiFranco, HISS Golden Messenger, Butcher Brown, Phil Cook, Tito Rojas, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, and many local groups in the Triangle Area. He currently serves as Artist in Residence and Jazz Combo Clinician within UNC Jazz Studies

Butler Knowles, a Durham, NC native, is a multi-instrumentalist with a heavy focus on Bass (electric, upright, synth, tuba). He is also a producer/engineer and founder of Worry Less Studios, based in Raleigh, NC. Knowles has performed in many famous jazz clubs in the Northeast, such as Dizzy's, Smalls, and Smoke. He has also held several residencies at The Black Cat in San Francisco.

Reagan Mitchell is a saxophonist and Associate Professor of Humanities at UNCSA. The merger of Mitchell's formal training and performance as a musician and pedagogical training as a curriculum theorist has an intrinsically interdisciplinary feel. Through his expanded course of study, Mitchell has laid the foundation for a program of research on the cultural and historical influences of race, space, gentrification, auditory architecture, and communal wisdom on education. His scholarship brings together curriculum theory, ethnic studies, Black diaspora studies, critical race theory, critical geography, and sound studies.

Free and open to the public.
