Join us for this deep dive into the art of the Camera Obscura!

Sunday, September 26, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm | Main Gallery

Cameras Obscura take advantage of diffraction – the way light bends at edges – through a pinhole aperture to focus an image on the back wall of a dark room. (Yup, film and digital cameras evolved out of the same principle.)

For this workshop, we'll set up a closet-sized portable version to get a first-hand sense of how these devices can be used to make fine art and photography. Along with the hands-on stuff, we'll spend some time talking about their historical usage in Renaissance painting, their contemporary application, and design principles for building your own.
