We are thrilled to announce a brand-new summer camp program for 2021!

Our unique camps emphasize creative expression, artistic experimentation, and active learning through art workshops designed to challenge and inspire. In collaboration with SECCA, Winston-Salem-based artists and art instructors have designed hands-on experiences that will introduce campers to the world of contemporary art.

Songwriting & DIY Instruments

June 14 - 18   //   9:00 am - 4:00 pm   //   Ages 7-10

Inspired by the revolutionary music of John Cage, Yoko Ono, and Anthony Braxton, campers will build one-of-a-kind instruments, then compose and perform original "visual scores" using shapes, colors, symbols, and graphics.

Unlike conventional scores, which follow strict rules and are played the same way every time, visual scores are more like guides or maps that inspire performers to follow their feelings and offer their own interpretation of the music.

Mindfulness & Self-Expression (Session 1)

June 21 - 25   //   9:00 am - 4:00 pm   //   Ages 10-13

Led by Winston-Salem painter Latisa Tatum, campers will discover their unique creative languages and learn to express their thoughts and feelings through the power of art. Each day, students will learn and experiment with different painting skills, participate in guided meditation to introduce mindfulness, and explore simple techniques that encourage authentic self-expression. Ultimately, we'll bring the creative experience together with campers communicating their perception of self-likeness by creating a self-portrait.

This camp will offer a safe space for students to develop their creative voice in a judgment free, non-competitive environment.
