The Messthetics

The last time drummer Brendan Canty and bassist Joe Lally were in a band together, they were the rhythmic architects for Fugazi, an organization whose decade and a half of disciplined progressivism provided a necessary bridge between the zenith of late-punk expression and everything alternative in rock that followed. In 2016, the two were enlisted by guitarist Anthony Pirog in a conspiracy to subvert and reimagine the power trio, bringing fully into the 21st Century a form that may have reached near perfection with Hendrix's Band of Gypsys on the very first day of the 1970s.

"The Messthetics make instrumental music that's a sonic adventure, and those adventures feel like a friendly challenge to both the listener and the musicians. Two of those musicians, Brendan Canty (drums) and Joe Lally (bass), were the backbone of Washington D.C.'s legendary band Fugazi, while Anthony Pirog is a man of many facets and his guitar can wail or tranquilize." – NPR

ABOUT 1970'S FILM STOCK

As 1970s Film Stock, guitarist Eddie Garcia lays down hard on the altar of pedal worship, drowning audiences in a fuzzy wash of guitars that stagger between beauty and chaos. Experimental and shoegaze sound collages rub up against finger-picked melodies and sustained drones. 1970s Film Stock is often described as "cinematic," with looping ambient textures, improvisation, skewed hooks, and live compositions that work as a soundtrack of a lost film.

"He powers his individual abstraction with fondness for Alan Licht and Derek Bailey, his guitar crying, sighing and screaming broken riffs and dissonant themes." - Grayson Haver Currin
